Terms of use

The short version: Moved Where is free to use and cite, the numbers come from the IRS as-is, and nothing here is advice.

The data

Migration figures come from the IRS Statistics of Income, U.S. Population Migration Data. We reformat and combine them (see How it works) but don't change the underlying counts.

The data and this site are provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. The IRS may revise its figures, and we may make mistakes.

Not advice

Nothing on Moved Where is financial, tax, legal, investment or relocation advice. Where people moved in the past doesn't tell you where you should move. Talk to a qualified professional before making decisions.

Citing and reusing

You're welcome to quote, chart and republish figures from this site with attribution to Moved Where (movedwhere.com) and the IRS as the original source. Every page has a ready-made citation and a CSV of its tables: see Download and cite.

The underlying IRS data is a U.S. government work and is in the public domain.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Moved Where and its author are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site or its data.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version. Questions: contact@patrickws.com.
